At Hope & Healing Therapy, we are committed to providing thoughtful, personalized care in a setting that protects your privacy and prioritizes meaningful healing.
For this reason, we are an out-of-network practice and do not bill insurance directly.

We don't bill insurance because:

Limitations to your privacy.
Insurance companies provide coverage of services based on a diagnostic code and other details within your clinical record. This means that in order to cover your care, they would need to know your mental health diagnosis and would have access to clinical records which could include personal information about your life and the difficulties that bring you into counseling.
This diagnosis and other information would then become part of your permanent health record.
Consequences of a diagnostic code.
Having a mental health diagnosis in your permanent medical file may impact future applications for life or disability insurance, certain employment opportunities, ability to receive professional licensing (most pertinent for people going into high stakes fields such as aviation or medicine) or security clearances (most relevant for people entering ministry or missionary contexts).
Potential "overshadowing" in your healthcare experience.
Some patients report stigma or "diagnostic overshadowing" in healthcare contexts where physical symptoms are overlooked or incorrectly attributed to a mental health condition.

People who have experienced trauma are at much higher risk of physical symptoms including sleep problems, digestive issues, chronic headaches, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, pelvic floor tension, cardiovascular disease, neurological diseases and substance use disorders. This does not mean these somatic problems are "in your head." Instead, more likely, due to trauma your body became more susceptible to developing these symptoms which still require medical treatment and monitoring.

Greater freedom in your treatment.
Working outside of insurance also gives us greater flexibility. We can tailor the frequency and length of sessions to support lasting growth, emphasize early intervention and prevention, and engage in treatment even when a formal diagnosis may not be appropriate or desired.

Choosing to remain out-of-network allows us to safeguard your confidentiality and focus on care that is guided by your needs—not by insurance requirements or limitations.

Benefits of filing for insurance reimbursement.
While we do not bill insurance directly, insurance can be a tremendous blessing and help for many. There are situations and people who can benefit from submitting superbills to their insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.

Helping you achieve holistic health is our top priority. So if there are financial pressures that make therapy impossible at this time, submitting superbills to your insurance company may open the door for you to receive the care you need to heal and thrive.

We are happy to provide all the paperwork you need if wish to pursue potential reimbursement through your insurance provider.
